Senior Day - Diamond Dons Beat Santa Clara 12-3
By Rory Davis May 15, 2012, 11:56 amSAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Each of the seven seniors to enter the game on Sunday made their last game at Benedetti Diamond count, as San Francisco completed the three-game series sweep over Santa Clara winning 12-3.
The Dons (27-28, 12-9 WCC) took a lead on their first swing of the day as leadoff hitter Justin Maffei swatted his fourth home run of the season to give San Francisco an immediate 1-0 lead. Senior designated hitter, Matt Chavez, and senior first baseman, Nik Balog, each hit home runs of their own, finishing their last game in front of friends and family in style. The three-home run afternoon for the Dons marked a season high.
All told, the six graduating players in the starting lineup (Balog, Adam Clear, Mason Morioka, Tom Barry, Jared Denham, and Chavez) went a combined 10-for-25 (.400) with six runs scored, two home runs, and five RBIs.
